| This is a bassoon, in case you didn't know. |
I guess I became a part of the musical community when I started singing in the third grade. I was really shy. I hated being in front of people. But I was infatuated with what I could do to a crowd with my voice, and still am.
I started playing the bassoon in the sixth grade and fell in love not with the instrument, but with the feeling I got playing in an ensemble.
I composed my first piece of music in the 5th grade, and I adored the miracle that was my music coming off a page.
I joined my high school marching band, playing in the front ensemble, and it is difficult and painful, but the feeling of an adoring crowd doesn't change.
It sounds very prima donna, but a cheering audience never fails to bring tears to my eyes. It's overwhelming.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that music is the universal language, and if all you've ever done is listen to it, you're only getting a fraction of the euphoria it can produce. I guarantee that the people that made the music that makes you get the spectacular feeling feel the same way, but at an exponential increase.
Try your hand at becoming a part of the music. You won't ever be the same.
With all that I have,
Lizabell Hanson
